These
guys are pissed off for several reasons and this
introductory EP is all about venting out those demons.
On one hand they seem to argue against promiscuity, so
effervescent and profanity-free are their lyrics for the
song “She is the Plague” they almost come as
puritanical, ‘bedding down the entire city is not
something to be proud of, you spread your legs, the list
is written all over your face’. All, obviously
delivered, in judgmental, savage and angry technical death metal
fashion. Misogyny has never been a topic foreign to
metal, but as the lyrics deliver their diatribe they
collide in ironic contrast with the brutality of the
music. It’s pretty preachy death metal. Dead Will Rise
almost come off like a band of Republicans. Except
Republicans couldn’t riff this brutally.
In the title
track, they vent against greedy America, but seem to lash out at
absolutely all corporate workers by painting them as mindless
tools who are the equivalent of walking corpses taking the
coward’s way out. ‘No goddamn sympathy for a man in a suit’
the lyrics decry, and I almost concur, except, not only
corporate workers wear suit. Burger flippers also wear their own
kind of suits, but they also get paid worse, enjoy worse
benefits and get treated like bitches while sweating out the pan
fryer.
All of
course is delivered in hyper blast fashion, stop and start
galore structures, a slaying guitar riff, about two dozen
breakdowns, some impressive double bass drum work and vocals as
guttural as ass. Needless to say, Dead Will Rise are definitely
no Republicans.
