DIE BY DESIGN

Now It Starts to Make Sense
(Mother Should Know)

The power of these guys compels me. Absolutely. Released in 2007, Now It Starts to Make Sense seemed like one of those records that tragically was going to have to be placed in the permanent backburner of my mind. I was going to have to let this one pass by the way side because there is so much other material to cover and I am trying to stay as updated as possible. So tonight I sat down, dished out a couple of reviews I am not particularly happy with, even though they accurately reflect my feelings towards them, and while shuffling things around on Frontpage I figured I might as well put some music on. I have listened to this one a couple of times before. In fact, it was once placed in my priority list, but for no particular reason I just kept on pushing it back. Unfair I know, but most hardcore bands bore me to death and I couldn’t remember exactly why was it that I had decided to put Die By Design in the priority list.

Now I know. This Swiss combo writes great songs. As rough as any of their current day hardcore counterparts and as prone to breakdowns, raspy vocals and excessive force as anyone working the extreme circuit these days, Die By Design peek over the rest because of their magnificent dynamics and because of their gift for melody. A gift that is not wasted in one occasion and that the band expertly manages to balance with outstanding and memorable guitar hooks that at times even reminisce of the NWOBHM. It helps a great deal that they are also heavy and catchy as fuck. Die By Design reminds of a less acerbic, acidic and irate Converge. So if those Bostonians are too violent for you, I highly recommend this record.
