Straight
Edge Failure
is an album that has been out for way longer than I thought, but
I wish to cover it one because it’s good, and two because it’s
good. Three because it’s pure. Yes, pure. Four because I like
the cover and five because they have one of the best monikers in
underground rock history. This is raw, short and in your
fucking face. This is well-played, direct and rude. And it
couldn’t be any other way. Instant Asshole is the type of band
that seems to come from a purer period of time. A period when
people used to act on instinct. Times when if hungry people
would bite each other with all the intentions of getting a fresh
chunk. Times when men sent their women to resolve their issues
by ways of pulling their hairs. Times when conflicts only had a
violent outcome often through violent means. Times when punk
music didn’t think about allegory. Time when punk wasn’t radio
ready. Times when punk was about power, about short circuits and
the electrocution through your ass.
Instant
Asshole are about a blunt message stamped in your forehead. They
are about waking up by ways of short fuses. The short fuses
being the seventeen songs (in sixteen minutes) included in this
2005 release. Instant Asshole are about making faces. They are
about giving the finger (their MySpace contains news reports
about how MySpace is now owned by that wrinkled vampire Rupert
Murdoch) and sticking it in your nostrils. They are about angry
vocals and pushing people around. They are about not letting
people pushing around. They are about standing up. They are
about complaining. They are about shaving your head. These all
are about being an Instant Asshole.
