Incredible how in these times of free flowing information it can still be so hard to dig up relevant facts regarding some artists. Navigate towards this band’s MySpace page and you’ll get a brief glimpse at their artwork, place of origin (Chicago) and a handful of somewhat blurry live shots from the band. But the record label’s site doesn’t mention anything factual. Besides the names of a few bands as reference and some vague mumbo jumbo about…stuff, there is a price attached to a new copy of this EP and that’s it. The tag reads $5.99, which is about $1.20 for each of the five cuts included in Rusher, which sounds about right.

Among the bands included in the press bit at the label’s site Pantera is mentioned. Frankly, I don’t hear much of that.  But there are so many extreme sub genres that stole characteristical bits from those Texans is almost impossible to refute the influence they may or may not have on Slow Horse (which by the way is a fantastic moniker).  EyeHateGod is also thrown in the pot. I can hear that. Rusher has more fast parts in its brief seveneteen minutes than EyeHateGod packed in their whole output but the nasty sludge plays a large role here.

Rage Against the Machine are also mentioned there and though they may be amongst Slow Horse’s fave bands their influence is null. It must have been pushed away by the hardcore presence. Yes, Converge...I hear that in many places. Though Slow Horse’s is far less dynamic and more acerbic stoner rock oriented. This is solid music. Some bits are very powerful and what is not it still flows and is hard enough to keep the friends of nice at bay.

Rusher’s got a bite and a kick, and the hectic changes into frenetism on “The Most Prestigious” are a peculiar highlight. Nice touches abound in each song.  On “Hello Kittie” the vocals are totally drowned. I doubt this was done on purpose. It sure sounds like a mistake. Structurally, it also sounds like an old song and by that I mean it places Slow Horse inside another subgenre bracket and doesn’t follow the parameters f the previous three cuts. I really like what I am hearing in this band. There is boiling potential here.
