TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION
Peace, Love and Total Fucking Destruction
(Enucleation)

Rich Hoak is back and in full grind form. This latest installment in the Total Fucking Destruction saga is much harder and steadier than their last Zen and the Art of Total Fucking Destruction. which included several acoustic songs. That was all thanked of course, but when I hear the TFD name I kinda want to get what I expect. The same goes for most grind bands, beyond the politics that abound in the genre, humor (many times through go lucky and burlesque rhythms) is allowed, but I find it a stretch when radical alterations in a band’s modus operandi result in distracting results. But kudos to Hoak and co. for going for it, now when I hear a song as exhilarating as “Grindfreak Railroad” I appreciate its demolishing capacity all the more.

Best of all Peace, Love and Total Fucking Destruction doesn’t let up for a second. “Bio-Satanic Terrorist Attack” brings on the idea in fifty-two compressed seconds of relentless aural mayhem; Hoak’s gotta be one of the fastest drummers out there, the space between beats is unbelievably tight and the distance between instruments is equally null. The guitars of Pingdum never lose shape but full attention is required, his riffs seem to straddle a line between black and death, albeit with lighter volume, lesser girth and more levity. Hoak is up front with the vocals, how he manages to spew these bitter lines while flailing his arms is simply beyond humanity.

Another aspect in favor of this album is its brevity. This is commonplace in grindcore records, but with so much material jam packed in it Total Fucking Destruction’s previous got tiring before it got over. If I am counting right there are twenty-four songs in the space of twenty-five minutes which means this release packs just about enough energy to give it a spin a day and still leaves most of our days unaltered. Better yet, political messaging, social commentary and hysterical rants are always best when delivered in short sharp musical shocks.
