A DEATH CINEMATIC
A Parable On the Aporia of Vengeance and
the Beauty of Impenetrable Sadness

(Self Released)

What a package! This 2-CD recording comes in a neatly folded cardboard box which encloses a book-like casing for two CD’s and which includes song credits, and which, needless to say when it comes to post rockers, provides enough space for long ass song titles.

But A Death Cinematic’s unorthodox approach is not limited to environmentally friendly package. Their music is as different sounding as I’ve heard this year. And it’s so pretty it may be good for the environment also.

“The Grasses Will Grow Tall Over” is a perfect example that's just as aurally long as it is wordy. When you listen to this band you will first have to discard your idea of what a song is. There is no concept of a single first of all. Like other post rock counterparts the tracks are long. Unlike other post rockers, A Death Cinematic are well, quite cinematic and avoid the heartbeat of a drum. That’s to say the music is pure background taken to the forefront.

The album features guitars twisting and twirling, generally avoiding riffs and prominently showing feedback and echo-y sounds. “The Sun Glints Through the Dust Risen From Their Hooves” does include riffs but these are muted and without the backup of a beat they are the equivalent to paint without canvas. The rest are abstract waves of noise and sound. But the difference between both recordings is striking.

While the first record features gentler sound where the guitars feature an admirable cinematic feel and a sentimental backbone the second record is more dense and intense and it features a glacial atmospheric doom side.

A Death Cinematic is a one man band and the songs feature in this recording are all born out of spontaneity.
An admirable feat indeed.
