BASTARDATOR
Identify the Deaf
(Alucard)

A moniker like Bastardator really opens up a whole slew of possibilities as far as naming bands. Off the top of my head I can think of at least two great band names that follow in the same –ator suffix tradition; Imbecilator and Fuckator.  How about that, eh? Anyone interested in using either or both please just drop me a line as well as $5 well-concealed in an envelope addressed to the sparrow.

That said, I must apologize to either the Canuck folks of Bastardator and/or to the Greek gods of Alucard Records, the label that released this awesome tape (300 copies) back in 2009, for taking so long to give this violent beast the space. Identify the Dead has since been released on CD format by Morbid Moon Records and a vinyl version is slated to be released through Destroy Records very soon. Shame on me for the unforgivable delay, because this band is still getting good press, even despite the fact that they broke up in ’09.

All the small hoopla is well-deserved. Identify the Dead is Bastardator’s only full-length, but it follows one EP, one split and it precedes one last split with Italian hairies Children of Technology. That alone speaks volumes of the experience and tightness of Bastardator. Of course, a robust discography never speaks louder than the music which in this case is 90% comprised of high grain riffage.  I am getting a bit sick of musicians not disclosing their full names or not adopting a funny as fuck alias because it doesn’t help much if I tell you that the man in charge of the guitars here is named Patrick. It is forgettable, that’s what that is. But the music of Bastardator is not.

Plain and simple. When I said tey were a tight unit I didn’t mean it in the Merriam Webster definition sense of the word. I meant that their music gels and even feels well-coagulated. Thrash or speed metal (as is described in the insert) is loose music. Loose and chaotic and constantly on the verge of a breakdown and that’s how Identify the Dead sounds.  These were champion fuckers of old school thrash and crossover drive. I just learned of this band but I already miss them.
