OUTRAGEOUS
S/T
(Troskot/I For US/Come Dancing/Ugly & Proud/etc)

Most hardcore music is pretty hideous. In these imaginary pages I’ve already bitched about it enough, so I will only say that every time I see a beefy meathead with a crew cut I think of hardcore. And every time that happens I like hardcore music a little less.

The self titled debut of Swedish hardcore band Outrageous comes issued by seven labels. I can only imagine the headache that it must have been to put this together.  This fact also makes me think that perhaps, all these labels, meaning all these people wanted to be involved with this band because they saw something unique in Outrageous.  If not unique, at least some talent.

And yeah, there is nothing unique about this, but there is certainly quite a bit of talent. Outrageous hits the spot by making tunes that are just as violent as anything Agnostic Front ever wrote, but also puts that little extra melodious undercurrent that’s only obvious past the first listen. It’s clever. The guitars especially, totally do more than what one may appreciate upon a shallow spin. You got to pay attention to the riffs, to those hidden notes that are fast and sharp but also saccharine helps. The vocals are your typical hardcore dude ripping his vocal chords into shreds by issuing threats of disappointment and whatever else.  So nothing new there.

Outrageous also scores points but keeping things short. You can never underestimate the power and the effectiveness of brevity.  This is only an EP, but at seven songs clocking under 20 minutes we are talking about an average length of two and a half minutes. To that, add the upbeat violent nature of the songs and it seems like the EP is over before you’ve been floored by a kick in the face from some idiot doing the windmill.
