Guess, we are not seeing the full picture here, but these Polish death metallers have given Spanish titles to all their full-lengths and that’s got me scratching my head. In the case of Los Asesinos del Sur, which translates to Southern Assassins, or Killers From the South, we are not even sure what south they are referring. Are they basing the lyrics of this record on the lives of South American serial killers? Or are they referring to themselves in geographical relation to Finland which is located north of Poland?
Doubt it. With titles as blunt and obvious as “Son of a Holy Motherfucker” there is little else to go around but the themes of a blackened death metal band; blasphemy, insults, hate, tales of destruction and who knows what else. There is a song called “Kot Wolanda”, especially that one is a bit of an enigma, but it sounds and reads like the title to a Soulfly song.
Stupid fucking jokes aside, Stillborn tear assholes apart on this one and leave your ear coliflowered and you face mangled, looking like a clit, really. The easiest thing would be to demark the undifferentiated sound their songs seem to possess; you know, quite visceral and pretty technical death metal by way of Satan, Satan, and Satan, but the riffage here is so vicious and relentless, the drumming is so blast-friendly and their songs, their compositions as a whole are so compact, it all works to their advantage.
Funny thing, the promo comes with this ad line, “these arrogant Poles will kill everything that’s impossible to fuck’. Logic tells us that the only ‘things’ that are impossible to fuck are actual ‘things’, but logic also tells us that you can’t fuck ‘things’, because, you know, most things, don’t have a hole, and if those things don’t have a hole, then how do you insert your pecker in there…there is some mystery to what Stillborn is doing and is not their music, but in that promo line. Their music kills, if only too normally.
