Mourners Lament – We All Be Given (We All Be Boring, More Like)

Yeah, you know, so everything about this album is boring. Even this review is boring, why read it? I was first drawn to the art, but much like the music after several experiences with it I’m not sure I know what the hell I’m looking at and I’m too bored to try anymore. What at first seemed a potential monolith of gloom looks more like a castle for Scooby and Shaggy to zoinks! in and pull off some old dastardly miser’s mask or whatever. Yeah, figure that one out. I’m so bored I pulled out a goddamned Scooby Doo reference. It makes me feel ever worse to say this, because I’m not often bored by South American metal. I’ve been praising it for a long time, but today, this day, which should have been last week but I couldn’t stomach it, We All Be Given has nearly tossed in the towel for me, but I tell it not to because I want to die.

Mourners Lament are from Chile, a country with several great underground acts I’ve encountered recently, but these guys aren’t included. I was so bored with this I barely hand the strength to review it. Each letter I type out here feels like a eon, my prose devoid of meaning, but I don’t care, because I want you to be bored too, bore with me. For what is supposed to be doom this couldn’t possibly be more formulaic and forgettable, or rather just plain old boring. The solos weep, the pounding moments cough, the vocals wheeze, just one big boring mess this is. Even as background music it fails. Were this playing in a doom elevator you’d press the “door open” button in the middle of floors just to get out, in spite of the risk to life. Rarely am I at a loss for words to explain something bad, I’m usually verbose when that happens, but here we are, a Deaf Sparrow first. I have no feeling currently, I want to sleep, and I want to forget this album ever happened to me. I have no idea why Hammerheart Records decided to reissue it, and this will remain an absolutely boring mystery.
