Obduktio – Ihmiskunnan Viholliset (Crude Rude Puke Punk)

I can’t recall a nice do-over of punk with some blackened crust from Finland. Most of what I get from the country with supposedly the toughest language in the world is black metal or, ugh, some of that Finnish hardcore-like-it’s-1985 scene kid blather. Obduktio was a welcome addition to my “you should listen to Finland because” folder. Ihmiskunnan Viholliset brings plenty of that “nobody likes this but you” sound that exemplifies what punk once was and rarely is.

Obduktio understand that mainstream appropriation has made the true bastion of punk the type that ostracizes the listener from all family and friends. Congratulations here’s some of dat. Ihmiskunnan Viholliset comes with a subdued, brute force in comparison to their earlier work. The riffing speaks for itself instead of being torn asunder for effect, which provides a more refined, yet still crude, sound. At times that Finnish tendency to weird out is a weakness, but these moments are rare because they’re so damn brazen about it and the vocals sound like they were recorded in the bottom of a rotting garbage can so it’s almost impossible to hate it.
