On Thorns I Lay – Threnos (Melodideathdoom Lol I’m a Writer)

I’m starting to realize Lifeforce Records has this “thing” with melodic metal bands who absolutely kill in the production and presentation. Sometimes setting a niche for yourself is good, except with pornogrind. Just let those fools have their netlabels and their weird community of drum machine, family-in-the-audience shows. So back to melodic metal, in this case of the death/doom variety, our topic and obsession for today, because On Thorns I Lay would be the definition of whatever genre those equal when added together. I guess melodideathoom? I swear I write sometimes.

On Thorns I Lay has currently reached their final evolutionary form, we think. The band’s gone through name and genre changes since it’s first inception as Paralysis (plain old death metal), and now this current incarnation. It’s interesting to see their progression into Threnos, a masterpiece that proudly wears an epic mantel without breaching the fine line of pomposity that often goes with the melodic. It’s probably because they so easily and successfully mix death and doom within the confines of the genre, or it might be that they’re just awesome and that’s about all I need to say for today. But since some of you need details let’s summarize. Vocals that punch, riffs that crunch, and artwork you want to munch. Also there are keyboards and organs. I swear I’m a professional writer sometimes. Just buy this thing okay?
