Perdition Temple – Sacraments of Descension (That Florida Thing)

So how exactly did that Florida death metal thing start? Like how is it a certain place in the world just becomes associated with something like that? Seriously I want to know, and I don’t want name-dropping to explain it, either. “Well, acktvally…Nocturnus, you know, uh…and then Killing Addiction, uh…” STHU, I know who came from where, but why they came from there is far more difficult to answer, and will probably never occur. But it just keeps happening seriously why? Don’t read this wrong, I like it for what it is, and maybe the mystery how a state that’s a vacation haven and repository for the old as they wither away became a death metal paradise might have something to do with both those things, or nothing.

Here it has to do with Satan, though. I’ve always enjoyed the more “evil” vein of death metal with all the blaspheming and really scary sounds and imagery that will push away practically everyone in your life. “Oh, no, something’s wrong with that guy…” Perdition Temple are one of the most prominent of the Satan type, from Florida anyway. Sacraments of Descension fits right into their stately tradition with its solid riff crushing, drum rolls, and that type of vocal style that’s more angry than deep. Maybe they’re just all pissed their lands are captured by foreigners for most of the year, or Northerners running from the snow? I don’t know, but if you’re looking for that kind of death metal with some Satan stuff, there’s really nothing spectacular, but nothing wrong, with Perdition Temple’s latest. Definitely warrants a listen or two, or three, maybe four, or five like me. So obviously I liked it more than I imply, though it’s one of those albums that, when looped, you not sure ever started again.
