Dkharmakhaoz – Proclamation ov the Black Suns (Did I Spell it Right Post-Apocalyptic Black Metal)

Sometimes metal of the arcane is just lame. Don’t bring that shit if you can’t walk that shit. This is especially problematic when bands of this virulent strain have really long and/or difficult to spell names like that’s supposed to mean they’re awesome or something. Holy shit I can’t even pronounce it let alone spell it. Must be next level. Dost thou hide behind letters, fools? Thus would it appear Dkharmakhaoz is of the same variety, but goddamn if this isn’t a band that is and should be proud of doing it a little different than most, because Proclamation ov the Black Suns slays and it even does it whilst spelling “of” as “ov” without smugness. Can you believe it?

Man as much as I need to double check my spelling of Dkharmakhaoz (phew), I definitely do not need to think twice about the beast that is Proclamation ov the Black Suns. The drums are delivered at a powerful, deep level, with riffs and flapping bass stretching over the expanse in inventive and modern ways without relying on tiresome tremolo snowstorms, but perhaps the keystone in the structure are the layered vocals, which avoid the most usual approach in black metal for a harsher, cancerous kind of hate. Dkharmakhaoz seethes with dissonance and is heavily chord-focused, perhaps lacking in the single-note hooks provincials expect, and a few moments lag (such as the approach to clean singing), but Proclamation ov the Black Suns features a number of moments that innovate without ostracizing, and it’s totally worth it.
