Körgull the Exterminator – Sharpen Your Spikes (Listen to it LOUD Blackened Thrash)

Wow good stuff right here. I mean here’s my old joke; review ends now. But I need to say a little more, I suppose, for this band who dared name itself after a Voivod album like no one would notice. Phew that’s some risky stuff right there! Because if you can’t bring the kind of riff drive of your namesake just G T F O. Luckily for us, Spain’s Körgull the Exterminator is another addition to the ever-wonderful Spanish metal scene who I should have heard of years ago and will pretend I did as we check out their latest, Sharpen Your Spikes. For blackened thrash this comes as expected on many levels. Körgull the Exterminator, however, do it well, which is the key to any standard approach, regardless of genre.

I was particularly impressed with their ability to hook deep into your chest quickly and with lasting pleasure. I’d zipper-mask myself for it. But what made me really enjoy Sharpen Your Spikes can be summarize on two primary counts. One, the vocals lead the music with a slight touch of the feminine, if you forgive my even mentioning it’s a woman at the head. When she gets mean, it sounds furious, no doubt, but there’s a softer quality that carries the music to an extremely effective degree. And, two, you absolutely need to listen to Sharpen Your Spikes LOUD. Like you will get absolutely nothing out of these guys at any level other than LOUD, which is another reason why Lilith’s delivery works so well. She’s a siren in a storm, and you will heed her and her band’s call.
