Sadistic Drive – Anthropophagy (Dirty Finnish Depraved Metal)

Let’s end this week (I think I’m ending it) with some depraved metal ye fools. I was hit with at least one other Finnish band of this style, more on the grind side, this past month, and man did they suck. You can almost tell immediately by the art whether a band of this more visceral, grotesque style is going to pull it off. If Sadistic Drive didn’t do it, after scoping that seeping mess above, I was going to be pretty pissed off. But Anthropophagy satisfies all you’ll likely need, this week at least, for Eurotrash, gory death metal of the depraved variety.

There are two features of Anthropophagy that were almost immediately recognizable to the aficionado of the depraved: effective riffs delivered in a short amount of space and a lack of gristle. Sadistic Drive accomplish everything necessary within minutes, each track packed with something of interest, yet thin enough to consume on an already full stomach. They waste little of the listener’s time with samples, though they’re certainly there, and find a way to fashion a sanguinary type of sound while providing tasty, marbled meat in every track, but still a little spoiled, of course. It’s a cultish melding of the rotting organic with the post-apocalyptic rush of crossover; short, monstrous, and finely imbrued.
