Pupil Slicer – Mirrors (Powerviolence Mathcore and Grind with a Purpose)

Ah so glad I received this so everyone can STFU that I don’t review music of this type. I just rarely get the good stuff. How many times do I have to say that? I guess every time since people tend to stop here once in their life for that one thing they heard of, lol. So what exactly is this? Well, UK’s Pupil Slicer, whose name vividly evokes one of the worst things ever, are actually a bunch of stuff; hardcore, post-hardcore, grind, math, powerviolence, shit I’ll run out of space if I keep going. But there’s a catch. The reason they’re even getting space here is because Mirrors reflects a bit of stuff for everyone (with a key detail most bands lack).

If there’s an easy way to explain, it’s probably the following: Pupil Slicer experiments with purpose. Now that I read that again it sounds pretty damn sweet, so let’s continue. Mirrors will fook with practically everything you expect if you like your metalcore, grind, powerviolence, and so forth, a certain way. Forget that certain way. Pupil Slicer push themselves to the absolute limit here; mixing, soldering, smashing, sweeping, screaming, growling, and add anything you like to my gerund list. But, listen close, there’s a point to it all. They’re not standing in wide stance with guitars between their legs nodding heads and finger tapping for the sake of regimen. Every moment in Mirrors is carefully considered. A sweep is not merely a sweep here, it’s organic, and the same applies to the rest. They don’t merely mess with you, but rather in a cold, calculating fashion. Absolute 100% you should purchase this in some format. Or all.
