Disimperium – Grand Insurgence Upon Despotic Altars (Volcanic Death Grind)

Crap has it really been three years since I reviewed something from Sentient Ruin Laboratories? Not sure how that happened… Sorry bro. Actually I don’t think I dug any of the art until now, and also also I was super behind on promos some months ago and basically just deleted everything to start tabula rasa. I felt bad about that, because I certainly missed a lot of sickness, including likely at least one release from Sentient. But hey, I’m here now, you’re here with me, and we’re about to get dark and sick and volcanic with the first full-length from a label native, Disimperium.

Sometimes I wonder at the experience of a nuclear holocaust. But why keep the metaphor modern, we have much older examples from which to draw, and Grand Insurgence Upon Despotic Altars provides us with the archaic assault necessary for the connection. Did you know Mount Vesuvius released more thermal power than the atomic bomb? Disimperium provide this neoclassical destruction. This is a pyroclastic surge (look that one up). An avalanche of ash. A blanket of smothering pumice. A swarm of flesh-eating cinders. Sick of my volcanic terminology yet? Well, don’t worry, because Disimperium are exactly that type of natural disaster and they’ll complete what I leave here unfinished. Grand Insurgence Upon Despotic Altars overwhelms from the beginning and even by the final second you feel a sense of numb exhaustion and wonder how you survived it all.
