Withering Rooms (Eldritch Horror Roguelike and Soulslike)

Alright, let’s talk about Withering Rooms, the 2.5D horror RPG from Moonless Formless and Perp Games, which dropped on April 5, 2024. This year’s been wild for roguelite games, and Withering Rooms is no exception. Imagine a roguelite horror game where you die and start over, classic, right? If you’ve played Have a Nice Death then you know exactly what I’m talking about. So, do not die. Easy, right? Yeah, not really! Lol.

Withering Rooms is no walk in the park. I died five times on the same boss and lost all my gear. Had me ready to yeet my controller across the room! The combat style is Souls-like, which means you’ll be swearing a lot. I love to use a good hardcore F Bomb while playing video games. Thank goodness for the dodge mechanic, which saves your butt more times than you’d think. But be prepared to attract enemies from all around; get ready to be chased down Mike Meyers style. Run as fast as you can! Oh, and there’s magic too. Casting spells and gaining curses from scrolls; it’s like Witching Hour on steroids. It adds a cool twist to the gameplay. Combat can be a bit clunky, but hey, that’s par for the course with these games. Graphically, it’s a tad janky, but still, Withering Rooms is a solid game. The New Game Plus mode keeps things interesting with more to explore.
