Bloodshed (Gory Horror FPS Bullet Heaven)

Hell yeah. First off, can we stop referring to retro FPS games as “boomer shooters?” That doesn’t make any goddamn sense! You’re connecting the old FPS market to older players, which is fair, I mean hey I’m 45 after all, but I’m not a fucking boomer. The boomer generation refers to the “Baby Boom” that occurred after World War goddamn II, when video games didn’t even exist. Hell, when games first came to market those people were in their 30s or 40s already! And when Doom and others came to market they were in their 50s and 60s! So saying “boomer shooter” makes no goddamn sense, get it? If you meant boom as in gun onomatopoeia, then sure. But yeah, I’m old, and I remember titles like Blood, so seeing how Bloodshed combines that old-school aesthetic, with some of the attitude and bullet heaven mechanics, I was proud to be referred to as older than I actually am! Check this shit.

The plot in Bloodshed is purposefully slight, because it’s really about the play, though we’ll likely get more details in future updates. The essential idea is a sinister death cult is trying to summon an ancient god by bringing to life the dead, and various creatures, and to stop the incoming end of all life you have to blast everything to hell. Combining the best elements of old-school FPS in that retro look with nice monster variety, a cast of playable characters with different core weapons, and a leveling feature that mimics Suvivors-like games, I was surprised at how much this one had to offer for what is still early access. The bonus chest drops, anti-camp mechanics, and mini-boss creatures were an additional feature that set it apart, but for the core play it’s important to note the weapon set and customization via leveling, which together provide the ability to create a unique build based on your play style and attack preferences. Also, props given for the combination of old world dark folklore with sorcery and 19th-Century demon slaying. Bloodshed lays heavy on the gore and tongue-in-cheek horror humor, with a thicker dose of adult (so no kids recommended), but it’s got the core gore details set and in updates could become a noteworthy slaughter fest.
