BIGKLIT – KLITORIUS BIG (Violating S3xual Death Rap)
I rarely do rap mainly because what I receive is so derivative I wonder why they even try. And the art…uggghhhhh. What is it with the hip-hop and rap community and god awful art? Seriously. Occasionally there are goodies like Chong Wizard, but I suppose like anything else the taint of the typical is […]

Fake Snake – Instigate (Haunted Factory of Pain Music)
So like I know this guy from way back maaannnn. I actually released a CD on the previous label (now combined with Deaf Sparrow) of another of his crazy acts, Melted Cassettes, and was thus hoping for something of the sort. Lucky me, because his other incarnation, Fake Snake, while bringing to mind pleasant […]

Entry- Detriment (Some Prosaic Punk Stuff)
I typically review punk submissions when I get them unless they’re absolutely awful, so even the average I’ll give a shot just because it’s so rare I receive anything from the genre that doesn’t reek of stagnancy. When I saw the quintessential post-punk look to the cover of this I figured it would be […]

Scolopendra – Those of the Catacombs (Vocally Sophomoric Occult Death Metal)
Well this is a curious state of affairs. Two of the dudes in Abhor and two random dudes from other bands appear to have a side project of sorts, or perhaps just a one-off, we don’t know yet because this is the only thing Scolopendra has done. It came out of nowhere, and it […]

Skeleton – S/T (Dark Basement Thrash)
This kind of thrash conjures my favorite vision. Imagine a basement in a lower-middle income, at best, town somewhere in a broken down, former industrial center of the US, probably Ohio (actually Texas here, technically). Imagine in that shit hole a local quickie gas station is the only “entertainment” and in that doldrums is […]

Rites of Daath – Doom Spirit Emanation (Sweet, Painful Blackened Death Doom)
I was originally going to pass on this simply because I didn’t get to it in time, but upon further consideration of how freaking absolutely awesome it is I couldn’t ignore my musically stabbed heart. I swear I don’t support Godz Ov War Productions in a secret side-deal, it just so happens this is […]

Eternal Rot – Putridarium (Bowel Disgorging Groove Death)
Oh man what a filthy groove. Stuff like this is hard to hate. Downright impossible in most cases. Or, at least in the case of Eternal Rot it is truth to speak as such. I’ve heard these guys before but I can’t remember what led me to pass on the review. Either I got […]

Convocation – Ashes Coalesce (Weight of the World Funeral Doom)
So yeah yet again I’m convinced that this type of doom needs to hit with everything it’s got. You want a funeral, make it sound like one without the silliness. The slowness, the trudging steps, the abject suffering. It has to hit and hit well to succeed. Slow itself is not enough. It needs […]

Neptunian Maximalism – Éons (TRASH TRASH TRASH STFU)
I’m probably going to get some shit for this one but oh well, that’s typical. And like usual I seem to be the only person in the world who can see through the haze of “woah so different.” I laugh hard when I see glittering generalities written about stuff like this. Hypnotic. Not interested […]

Wędrowcy~Tułacze~Zbiegi – Berliner Vulkan (Polish Synth Noir)
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this one what with the blue skull hipster thing and the fact that Wędrowcy~Tułacze~Zbiegi (WTZ for short) is listed as, lol, black metal and experimental on some shit sites. I’ve also seen vain attempts at calling this “post-black metal” but you just can’t toss that around any old […]
