Apsulov: End of Gods (Cyberpunk Viking Scare)

Freaks, how do I put this? This game is exploding with badassery. From desperately scurrying through shadows away from trolls to fighting all sorts of fierce, colossal beasts with a mechanical arm, there’s always something refreshing. Apsulov: End of Gods was forged by small Swedish horror game studio Angry Demon and it perfectly blends Norse mythology with a dark, collapsed future. If you’ve ever wanted to travel different Norse realms fighting off or manically hiding from creatures of the damned, there’s never been a better time. This game literally has a husk of a human corpse with spider appendages extruding from its chest and it wants to kill you, I mean c’mon, you’ve got to see it for yourself.

Become Alice, an audacious realm traveler assigned the task of exploring the 9 worlds of Yggdrasil in order to house an ancient artifact, protecting what’s left of humanity. Experience a chain of cybernetic upgrades with enhanced vision and a powerful arm called the Jargreiper which progressively becomes more kickass. While journeying through jam-packed, scientific Norse worlds you’ll find all sorts of hideous demons that want to eat your ass: cursed souls, a spiritually connected (and gross) two headed giga dog, gargantuan mountain beasts etc… which reminds me just how invigorating this game is. What the devs managed to pull off is an impressive, constructive improvement of their previous work in quality and most importantly atmosphere. Wondering what twisted, alternate realm is next is what keeps an otherwise simple horror formula consistently interesting. There were points (especially end game) that the Jargreiper felt way too fricking OP, partially subtracting from the fear and desperation of being a pathetic runner, but considering what Apsulov: End of Gods offers, it almost makes it worth a second run on God difficulty anyway.
