Rothadás – Kopár hant... az alvilág felé (Eerie Death Doom Aw Man)

Aw man we got some eerie stuff in native Hungarian tongue here, folks, aw man. You know that’s usually always good. Further, I can’t remember the last time I received a submission from a Hungarian act that wowed me to the extent of aw man. Maybe never. Maybe this is the first time, and it comes at a fitting point in the year when the world enters its death throws so thanks to Hungary’s Rothadás (meaning “Rot”) for stirring up my loins with an eerie type of death doom that makes me say aw man.

Death doom is probably a genre that can’t fail currently, or at least I’ve yet to find a band that has. This is not to say that Rothadás is winning because they simply chose the right genre, they’re better than that. Kopár hant... az alvilág felé is a glorious mix of dark waste. A crushing sense of the “eerie” permeates the work, a type of atmosphere that’s easy to ruin in a single track, but this duo is masterful with their arrangements. Crushing, with an occasional funerary gait to the riff development, this one overwhelms with slime and drowns the listener. Truly a welcome step into death with one last aw man.
