Nordvagr – Resignation IV (Dark Ambient Industrial with Sick Beats)
Finally, finally, some good dark ambient/dark industrial. Hell, any ambient or industrial is needed around here, but as I’ve said countless times, the former is a genre that seems simple to craft, which is why the majority of submissions I receive are total garbage. Bunch of fools with keyboards yet no actual training in how to use them. The latter, well, it’s easy to craft if you follow the rules, which far too many people do, which is why most of that also sounds like total garbage. But totally awesome of either of these? Very few examples. One of those, who has always slammed and still got it, showing all the younglings why they’re weak, is legend Nordvagr! My appetite for true underground skill in dark ambient/dark industrial is finally slaked!
Resignation IV is actually part of an ongoing project that started with the first in 2008 (phew, been awhile), and a cool box set in 2022, the goal being a fusion of dark ambient, with a touch of industrial, and sick fucking beats. Not only is the master carrying that tradition further, Resignation IV reveals why he’s still the champ bitch. Let’s start with the stellar cover and layout by Sandrine Pelletier, which brings so many ideas to mind I’ll just leave it to you. I mean just look at that! Perfect layout, perfect sense of space, perfect sense of color! Following the absolutely awesome cover, the listener is then treated to Nordvagr’s skilled transformation of dark ambient and Euro beats into a cinematic experience. One thing I’ve always enjoyed about his work is the clear development from what’s come before. It’s really a culmination point of everything he’s done. If he actually has it in him to go beyond Resignation IV, even further, I’ll die a peaceful death. But there’s no reason to hope for it, it will be, because it has always been.
