Caustic Phlegm – Purulent Apocalypse (Fungal Decomposition Death Metal)

I decided to go the route of pure disgust this week with music reviews. Case in point, Scumripper (see review prior to this one), next case in point, Scotland’s one-man viral plague of diseased myconid mucous, Caustic Phlegm. I think one of the best things about this band is I can pretty much get creative explaining the sound of it by just referencing the album itself. I don’t even have to talk about the music, it’s all done already. Everything’s right there! Ready to infect! From the fungus-covered, melting beast on the cover, to the track names. Even the album title, Purulent Apocalypse, makes it clear! There’s no holding back! Get infected!
Have you ever felt like a cadaver getting a shower entirely consisting of purge fluid? Are you sexually attracted to deformed cretins? More so if they’re foul, infected, and infested with a flesh-melting contagion that forces you to decompose, your bones turning soft, covered in blisters, as you find yourself deep in a Purulent Apocalypse? See how I did that. I legitimately just used all the words in all of the tracks to the album for a nice, creative flow that gives you every indication of what you’re about to listen to. One of my favorite things about Caustic Phelgm is the vocals. The music, yeah, it’s dripping in rotting mushroom disease, but those vocals, shit. They sound the part! If that thing on the cover could speak, it would sound just like this, and that’s all you need to know. Plus, the slightly above demo level of production does a great service to this guy’s sound. Do buy.
