Hexecutor – …Where Spirit Withers in Its Flesh Constraint (Hauntingly Ethereal Blackened Heavy Metal)

Are the French coming up to overtake the Finns in weirdness? Also the ghostly and ethereal? Might happen, at this rate. I really needed to listen to the latest from Hexecutor several times to get what they were doing. Even after that I’m not sure I’m in the “get it” crowd yet. Maybe I failed this time. Nevermind, I never do! What was I thinking? Look at the facts from other sources. Is this really blackened thrash metal? Lol, what? Who even thought of that ridiculous combination? I trust Metallum less and less these days. There’s much more here to discover, and if the title …Whte Spirit Withers in Its Flesh Constraint doesn’t suggest something more philosophical, you probably shouldn’t listen. Because, yes, it’s going to deny genre constraints and definitions.

There’s so much assimilation, consumption, and synthesis in this album it boggles a boggled mind. It’s difficult to decide where to start. At first, …Where Spirit Withers in Its Flesh Constraint seems to follow certain formulae in style and progression, until you go further… WTFFFFF. Hexecutor mix a number of different genres together here, but the best I have is considered this ethereal blackened heavy metal, with a tiny does of blackened power metal. You heard that right. Singing in their native tongue, Hexecutor wittingly release restless spirits from their sound, with a clear, dominant base line providing superior support to the main guitar action as the drums chug along, with some speed metal flare, to create a most unusual mixture. Haunting without extraneous elements, spooky without needless theatrics, and foreboding without force is the best way to summarize it all. Truly a unique work for the current era in metal.
