Warslaughter – Exacerbación (Excrement Covered Death Metal)

 

After that last review of the latest full-length from Morbyda, here we have another one that is judged easily by its cover. I like doing that, because good art tells a story, and when it tells a story as indeterminate, twisted, and dark as this one, fear level rises. Add to that drippy album title, but more importantly torture logo with bodies intertwinced in the spikes as if broken on the wheel, and the fear turns into terror. Few can survive the terror that bands like Warslaughter exude, and Exacerbación can take that terror to absolute horror. Since it’s all about making bad things worse, let’s make your weak blackened death metal so black its holocaust charred.

   

Technically this was already released via two labels in different formats, but since we have a new CD drop this week it gave me an excuse to review, though honestly it hits hard enough I probably would have done it anyway. Warslaughter are true to many things, the least of which is their name. This is two things: war, and slaughter. So a portmanteau made the most sense, they figured. Though EP, Exacerbación has quite a bit to say. Excluding the primordial eeriness of the intro and outro, this one is degraded to its core. Only the truly elite will be able to pick out the instruments within the horrid swirl of noise, but once you get grabbed for the ride down their sludge-covered sluice, it’s a fast and devastating ride. I’d verge on calling this war metal, I mean Warslaughter does have ‘war’ in their name right there, but this is beyond war. This is complete destruction. Nothing left alive, and, in fact, nothing left to exist.
