Mutant Sex Demon – Cutting Through (Perverse Black n’ Roll)

 

Here’s another “hot damn” type of release. Finland’s Nicolas Wallgren (aka Lord Warmoon), is at it again! I forget where I first heard about Mutant Sex Demon, I just remember laughing (in the best way possible), and I was excited, some time later, to see this supple full-length hitting the promo inbox. Adorned with photos showing Lord Warmoon wearing a bat mask while choking a cemetery statue with a chain, leather backgrounds, nods to some of the most notorious bands in history, and crowned with a cover featuring a pregnant occultist smoking a cigarette, Cutting Through is doing as it says, slicing apart the sinews of the soft underbelly holding back the true future of all underground music. Simply put, this is stuff no one wants to listen to, even you, and it’s about time. Finnish filth is forever!

   

Mutant Sex Demon (lol) are masters at working simple structures into sticky memories that dry and become pleasingly uncomfortable. After an over-amplified collection of random sounds and samples about devilry, the beast kicks back with a rolling groove of a bass line and it’s all over thereafter. With its swagger and theatrical sleaze, Cutting Through presents an impressive collection of bright riff action with the right touch of scum distortion, mid-shriek vocal delivery that sounds like a bondage session, lo-fi samples, ripping solos, and leathery attitude that the most violent of offenders could never hope to achieve. With its intensity, and This is one that survives multiple spins and though you won’t find anything new a second, third, or twentieth time around, it doesn’t matter, because it does more than it needs to with far less effort, debasing your favorites with its sinister smile.
