Anger Foot (Not an FPS Arcade Killing for Skilling)

As usual I waited awhile before I dropped a review for this, but, also like usual, it deserved the time. Anger Foot is not what it seems at first, in fact it will blow your sensibilities out of your comfort zone with a big kick to the balls up into your brains in a few minutes. I noticed a lot of, heh, anger about it online, but all of it boils down to a complete lack of understanding about what this game is really about. There are certainly feet involved, and anger, but is it really an FPS? Is that it? Another shooter with, granted, an interesting aesthetic? If that were it then I would agree with some of the “critics” out there, who found it wears thin in only a few levels. Problem is they’re just not good enough for it and they have no clue what they’re even playing. Idiots.

Let’s start with this: this is not an FPS. Though Anger Foot certainly boasts FPS elements, it’s not purely this at all. In fact, it’s barely this. Playing the role of Anger Foot himself, the game places you in control of what I believe is a pissed-off frog (though it’s never clarified), whose four favorite pairs of sneakers are stolen in a world where crime is the literal law of the land. To get your shoes back you’re taking on four different gangs under the control of the Crime Minister, head of Shit City (lol). With its blacklight color scheme, goofy-ass characters, and lightning-fast play, this isn’t something you simply fly through. If you do, you don’t get it. See, Anger Foot isn’t about the story (which is great, by the way), nor is it about the shooting, or even kicking, it’s about those damn unlocks. Three per level that require utilizing special shoes, killing everyone within a time limit, beating it without jumping, and a variety of other nitpicking nonsense to absolutely test your gamer reflexes to their utmost limits. Thus, the real key is not simply killing ala any other FPS, it’s about killing while skilling. It wasn’t meant to be played in a single sitting; this is a game that can take days, or perhaps better to say weeks or months, to truly complete, and this is the real core of what it’s about. Whoever doesn’t get that is another flash-in-the-pan pseudo-gamer journo, at best.
