Pustulant Flesh – Gurgling Pustulence (Eyeball Bursting Slime Metal)

 

Last week, a new slab of noise landed, and I immediately wondered if the hideous thing was from somewhere around Flanders because that region, along with Finland and Chile, has become a festering hotbed for that vile strain of death metal with the “when Carcass was good” sound. A sound that requires a full understanding of “the rot” to work. In consideration of this, it’s best to start by saying that Denmark’s Pustulant Flesh are just such the type of band and I was correct in my estimation of their origins. How many times can I mention when something speaks for itself? These guys speak for themselves, the art speaks for itself, the band name speaks for itself, the album title, it all does it. It’s all gross, and you’re about to contract sepsis from listening to it. This is a declaration in the name of gross!

   

Pustulant Flesh [sic], with their latest serving of decomposing remains masquerading as music, Gurgling Pustulence, completely cover themselves in “the gross.” Soon to be released by Extremely Rotten Productions (lol) and categorized with a single theme in Metallum (just “gore,” lol) there’s almost nothing you need to say, but I’m going to do it. Pustulant Flesh bring some seriously thick chunks with their work. There’s a noticeable density to the sound, especially via the bass, which adds a layer of disgust to this type of approach that many bands pretend is their calling, but only a few actually work it. Of course, they had to be total jerks and use the short track approach for one, just for laughs I guess, which annoys the piss out of me, but if you’re looking for a face-ripping, slime oozing, eyeball bulging, decomposing musical reference to the cover art, I’m going to stop now because there’s nothing more to say.
