Necrogore – Ectoplasmic Rape Phenomena (Giallo Gore Metal)
I feel like a new war is developing, a war between two countries. It’s sure to be a war the human race will never forget! Lol, did you think I was getting political? This is about death metal fools! I’m talking here about the ongoing pressure from Chile upon Italy and vice fucking versa. I’m pretending they’re at odds, of course they’re not, but we’ve got a real battle going on for supremacy in all that is death! Chile was already on my hot list for one of the true meccas of death metal (all varieties) in the modern day, but recently Italy has been coming from behind, brutally stabbing to the kidneys with the particular Italian brand of gore-obsessed, putrid, Giallo crust from bands like Necrogore!
I’ve gotten a lot of shitty death metal in the past few months, with the exception of what’s been coming out of Chile and Italy. Necrogore are yet another one for the expanding roster, with probably the greatest cover art Paolo Girardi has ever done. Ectoplasmic Rape Phenomena sets out to violate the listener from the intro, a 1980s synth masterpiece of ghostly dread and dissonant guitar build, before quickly transitioning into blood-soaked madness. Once you enter the labyrinth of rotting film reels turned into metal that is the bulk of this album, you soon find yourself covered in spectral technicality and nightmarish gore logic. One thing I really loved about this release was Necrogore’s ability to lay off the “in extremis” taken by too many bands these days. You’re not brutal. We’ve heard that already. Necrogore is satisfied in making their sound clear, and distinctly sharp, and using moments of silence, though brief, to reinforce their vision sets it apart from the norm. Tie it together with some vocals that will turn men back into men, and you’re blood-spattered smile shines bright.
