Meltification – S/T (Churlish Death Grind)

 

Are thee proud enough to go the self-titled route? To do so requires the maximum of unbothered grace, and in the world of anything even remotely adjacent to grind, grace is scarcely known. Churlish perhaps? That’s too Thesauaurs for these parts, I’m afraid, but everyone knows that most bands who even dip a smidgen in grind have almost no care for refinement. This is unfortunate, because ironically it’s exactly that detail that can enhance the grind, molding it into a whetted war machine. This is exactly why the S/T debut from Denmark’s Meltification succeeds.

   

This music cuts splendidly enough that permanent scarring results. Meltification are clearly one with the grind, but its the distinct radiance to the bass and guitars that provide the foundation so that each track has its own voice. In addition, however, we find here a perfect balance, whether accidental or not, with drums slightly muffled, and vocals that mix shrieks with angry, post-punk yells that will rouse that 18-year-old you that’s been waiting for the regressive compensation necessary to make the wrong choices again. Meltification is properly angry, yet confines itself well to the grindspace with extremely accessible style, and pseudo-punk nonsense for that extra little bit of rebellion we still have in us until we realize we’re cringe unc old. There’s very little out there about these guys currently, so expect more to come, and if not, as a one-shot this rips.
