Ludgar – Violent Visions (Blackened Vile Thrash Punk)
Well shit, I don’t need to say too much today. After you set the mood with the intro, I could toss out any of the tracks here and say “there you go,” and leave it strictly at that. But I know you need substance, and I get my reel ideas by talking nonsense, so let’s continue. Ludgar have just a demo to their name before this, released by cult favorite Doomentia Records. And my man at Dying Victims Productions knows the good shit, so he was quick to sweep these miscreants up for a proper full-length before anyone else got wise to their antics. By antics I mean raw, devastating blackened thrash with a sickened punk edge that would make a trad street punk reidentify as something else because they aren’t hardcore enough. This is the crux of Violent Visions.
A particular element of this debut that makes it work so well is the abyssal echo added to everything. Once they start to cut with the riffs, you find yourself chained and completely overwhelmed by Ludgar’s incessable thirst for violence. In spite of this rather direct approach, every track in Violent Visions has something to say, and with vocals moaning, roaring, and shrieking along with the slightly off-kilter, two-stepping of doom that runs throughout this work, there’s simply nothing more that needs to be said. Pure audio terrorism properly experienced on full blast as you drive around a public park in the middle of children’s hour.
