Estertor – Evil Black Church (Satanic Butt Stuff Death Thrash)

Here’s a time I wish I saved a perfect score for a future release. Guess I just have to give the same one again, because there are rarely any bands that can get away with calling out the name of track titles as a song’s chorus, but Spain’s Estertor is one few. In fact, most of what they do, in less capable hands, would come off as cheesy, maybe even commercial, but the band’s haughty approach to death thrash is what will, in end, convince anyone of their power. And if you’re not one yet, time to worship inside of the Evil Black Church. But be warned, it will involve butt stuff.
Any genre has the potential to become repetitive. Nuance is key to success these days, and Estertor prove, yet again, why I released their last album as a special vinyl edition (that takes some serious cash folks). These guys consistently pile on practically every trick in the tomb (cover art reference), until the resultant mass is best considered the central altar to true death thrash. Solos, shrieking riffs, samples, and vocal layering abound. But, as I found the last time, one of the band’s most distinguishable features are the bizarre leads, which run somewhere between theatrical and earthly, giving it a truly unique presence. So load up the rotting butts, stick a few cross deep in there, and worship inside the fucking Evil Black Church.
