Immortal Death – Demo (Grisly Black Metal)

Leave it to the Japanese, yet again, to truly terrify. How are they so damn good at mixing it up? I just don’t get it. Is it something culturally imbedded over there? Well, regardless, we have another example here of taking a tired old style and turning it into something so horrifying even the most rabid of genre fans will run screaming. I should add I generally avoid things like this to review, because it’s simply a demo given a new release to a wider base, but Werewolf Records I adore, even though I think I only reviewed a single release from the guy, damn… Anyway, forget it, time to get horrified with Immortal Death!

These guys are so hardcore under the earth they barely have a Bandcamp and if you go to their Twitter (X) account you’ll find it doesn’t even exist. It probably never did. It’s not even clear who’s in the band other than a member of Sex Messiah, and their distaste for everything human remains the only clear element. This demo turned full-release is beyond raw. It’s not undercooked, it’s not even born yet, but was removed from the womb posthaste. After a grisly intro that sounds like a late-night horror rerun on moldy VHS, Immortal Death release their subhuman hate recorded with a single microphone in an open grave. In spite of the expected rawness, the depth and legitimately horrifying atmosphere is far better than even heavily produced black metal bands are usually shit out, and this is only a demo. I wasn’t even aware it was until I took a few moments to research and this doesn’t ruin the sound, rather it makes it more impressive. Dark, dastardly, and with blood-spattered vocals coming out of a butthole, Immortal Death is for only the true champions of the underground.
