Edge of Sanity (Eldritch 2D Survival Horror with Big Eyeballs)

Edge of Sanity is a 2D survival horror game set in the isolated wilderness of Alaska in the 1980s during the Cold War. You play as Carter, a resupply specialist for the mysterious PRISM research company, who is tasked with keeping essential supplies coming and keeping things running smoothly. The game emphasizes resource management and exploration, making it ultimately an “adventure game” on its engine with “light RPG elements.” You must scavenge supplies, solve meticulously designed geometric puzzles, and rescue other game characters from dangerous situations. Controls are simple and intuitive, which always helps in a game where quick responsive actions are necessary.

The game offers a steep difficulty curve that makes you feel really good about your intelligence and reflexes once you manage to push through. And boy, do you have to push because this is not an easy game. Make no mistake, this is a game that goes out of its way to make you feel tense through a combination of great visuals, solid sound design, and a lighting engine that doesn’t shy away from making things dark. Unlike some horror games, Edge of Sanity isn’t afraid to let you see the enemy in front of you, just as long as it also lets you see the enemy behind you. For fans of the genre, this one provides a captivating and disquieting experience. It combines the elements of resource management and psychological horror into a most compelling package.
