FLY! – …or Die! (Motorcycle Fume Huffing Dirty Aussie Rock)

Here’s something you all need a dose of, right into the nostrils and up into the brain. Dying Victim Productions has really been taking some chances with his releases in the past few years, giving due to bands no one has heard of yet, but that’s because dude has an ear for the good stuff. FLY! is the perfect example of this, as the Australian quartet has been doing nothing except playing raw, dangerous rock n’ roll up and down the cost of their home country exclusively from motorcycles. Their mustaches appear bedecked with oil flung from the spokes, they were probably born in a sidecar, and I think they live on their motorcycles too.

To be honest I was disinterested in FLY! at first because the vocals are extremely dominant in the recording. I mean dude is his own motorcycle in a garage full of scooters is what I’m saying. But, give it a minute, or two, and let it rev, because once you get it, you find yourself knee deep in girls, sweat, and puffing off an exhaust pipe as if it were vaping but you don’t feel like a simp. FLY! does an incredible job with their style, and it finds its way deep into the music. After the intro of brothers in the wind preparing for the next ride, they head right into it with an attitude few bands can pull off seriously. With the echo added to the vocals and his devious bite in approach, it commands control over the rest, which is dirty, crude rock n’ roll the likes of which the classics wish they were but never were. I’m looking at exactly the bands you’re thinking of. With references to the mean highway life, shady bars, stab wounds, and drinking, for once I actually feel like these four really live it. Like it or not, only FLY! remains, now get with the rest of us and ride.
