Onslaught Kommand – Malignancy (Blackened Chilean War Grind)
Almost two years ago I reviewed the demo by Chile’s Onslaught Kommand, and even before I remembered their Nunslaughterish logo I knew by the cover of Malignancy, with its more brutal and visceral approach to gore, I was going to be slewn asunder. I like the hand saw there too, very nice, because whatever happened to that sorry soul was not done by that, trust me. That’s just for the picture because you wouldn’t be able to handle the real tools that did the deed. Coming back with a little more clarity in form, this blackened war grind assault squad avoid the CGI and go straight for the practical effects because screw the modern when it comes to gore.
What that means is this is a hands-on, and all over, mess of blackened grind. Evoking all that is reviled and repulsive in life, Onslaught Kommand provide a more thorough experience of their particular approach in Malignancy, which reads like underground snuff film in comparison to other crap grind out there. In true Chilean fashion, this quartet with their first full-length seek to disgust the listener as the vocals echo off slaughterhouse walls with a slightly metallic effect as you dangle, by your inner ears, from meat hooks, awaiting the rusted-chain saw riffs slicing through your abscess-covered flesh. Unclever analogies aside, Malignancy, graced with an awesome, B-gore layout by Brian Paulin of Morbid Vision Films, is clear on its intent. If you can even stand looking at it, you’ll stand the listen, maybe.
