Visteria – S/T (One-Woman Emasculating Violating Metalpünk)

Lol yep. I’m telling you I had a ton of awful promos these past two weeks, and only two stood out as worthy for any review, let alone a positive one. In this case we’re beyond positive to godly, so yay. Let’s consider here the debut mini-cassette from Poland’s Visteria. It’s a small package, but it’s crammed with so much metalpünk attitude, spite, and tradition it’s overflowing past the brim of the vessel most full-lengths can barely fill. Ripe with tales of wolves, violent sex, self-harm, and demon worship, trust me when I say you’re not ready for her, at all.
One-woman siren Hönorata lays it, and you, all out with this debut. This is one of those drops that comes out of nowhere and makes a strong statement, and at this rate probably for the rest of her career. Though she plays a mean bass for currently little-known Polish punk team Meluzyna, I’d have to say this is her true calling. Visteria is quite to-the-point with what she’s about, but with lasting effect. Most metalpünk loses engorgement in a few tracks, but this S/T, phew, it’s going past the point of pain, and no medication is the reason; this is raw, pure energy. The vocal delivery is especially notable with fierce shrieks, and touches of attitude, even some condescending laughter. With a song titled simply “Die” and another “Alcoholic Slut,” laying out themes about revenge (I sense personal tragedy) and death by super rough cowgirl, this is a project that’s going to excite the most diehard and awaken them from their one-pump slumber.
