Putridarium – Natvm Ad Mortem (Pig Vomit Dirty Deathdoom)

Yeah I haven’t gotten any good 7″ cuts in awhile, and for our next scuzz blast for the new year, we have Germany’s Putridarium dealing out a two-track wonder called Natvm Ad Mortem. Adding to the pantheon of deathdoom I’ve experienced over the past few years, this particular effort builds upon the putrid foundation this trio has crusted together over years of demos and splits. They only have one full-length to their name, but personally I find bands that enjoy grinding down bones are best tasted in a few licks rather than sucking out all of the marrow over the course of a half hour. Keep it short, and pungent I say.
Putridarium leans more heavily onto the side of death than they do doom, but man do these two tracks feel like an entire album. They maintain a fairly oppressive mix, downturning everything into muck, but generally refusing to slow, making sure your head continues to nod as your skin crawls from the grime. Keeping the vocal delivery at a raspy, throttled choke that, amongst the tempo dynamics, makes for a thoroughly repulsive stint in spite of it being but a 7″. Of particular note are how the melodies squirm like maggots through the thick chunks of sound, allowing Natvm Ad Mortem to easily speed up the glacialness of doom into a melting torrent of swallowing debris. Easily survives multiple listens, though you might not be so lucky unless you’re a true devotee of the craft.
