POX – :BKW: (Necromantic Blackened Punk)

God I love bands of this particular variety. Basically, assume that anything named after a disease or ailment is probably going to be good, and in the case of Belgium’s POX we find this theory sufficiently satisfied. They never specified the pox, but who needs to when there are so many to choose from in the world. So, satisfying in that respect. The only thing, I should state, not satisfying here, is that these scummy obscure folklore freaks have yet to do a full-length! It’s been over a decade and all we get is another EP? Come on now! Well, at least it kills.
I feel like if you go with a convoluted album title such as :BKW: (Black Knuckle Witchcraft), with all its silly little symbols, when you could just write that cool shit out, we deserve more! But, POX is unwilling to break their tradition of DIY necromancy, and based on the fact they also still use a Hotmail account, it’s clear the old die hard. But they’re not there yet, though we’re not sure if a full-length is ever coming. Named after the most annoying, contagious virus types on the planet after herpes, these Belgian disease bags bring pestilence with a cheap beer edge that is the strongest selling point of their approach. It’s the kind of sound that will leave you collapsed in dirty street puddles after contracting a disease from a filthy bar without even having sex. Mix that shit with devious witchcraft, and you know exactly why we should plead with these guys for a goddamn full-length! But, we’ll take what we get, for now.
