Voidwards – Bagulnik (Dark Ambient Funeral Drone)
I like when an artist forces you to research their creation. This is entirely necessary when they’re obscure and seemingly refuse to provide any clear presence. They live as more of a shade, so deep in the shadows you barely see a glint from their eyes with light shining upon them. In the era […]

Presence (POV Haunted House in Suburbia with Dark Secrets)
Every time the promo for Presence, by serial formal experimenter Steven Soderbergh, touted its novel conceit – a haunted house story from the ghost’s point of view – I did the old horror nerd scoff. “I guess we already forgot about Beetlejuice, not to mention [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS] and [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS],” I said, […]

Luring – Malevolent Lycanthropic Heresy (Shapeshifting Black Metal)
I don’t think I’ve been this proud of American black metal since, well, now I guess. Listen, though he had a few good tracks, I only owned a Leviathan shirt because the logo’s cool. We have cool logo here with Pennsylvania’s Luring, as well, but musically something much different. Something more profound, something more […]

Visteria – S/T (One-Woman Emasculating Violating Metalpünk)
Lol yep. I’m telling you I had a ton of awful promos these past two weeks, and only two stood out as worthy for any review, let alone a positive one. In this case we’re beyond positive to godly, so yay. Let’s consider here the debut mini-cassette from Poland’s Visteria. It’s a small package, […]

Until Dawn (Interactive Survival Horror Drama)
Until Dawn, the highly anticipated remake of the 2015 cult classic, was released on October 4, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC. Developed by Ballistic Moon, this reimagining of the beloved horror game offers a fresh perspective on the original while maintaining its core mechanics. One of the most impressive improvements in this remake […]

Nordvagr – Resignation IV (Dark Ambient Industrial with Sick Beats)
Finally, finally, some good dark ambient/dark industrial. Hell, any ambient or industrial is needed around here, but as I’ve said countless times, the former is a genre that seems simple to craft, which is why the majority of submissions I receive are total garbage. Bunch of fools with keyboards yet no actual training in […]

Rotpit – Long Live the Rot (Complexly Flippant Swedish Death Metal)
I’ve seen bands evolve before, but rarely to this level. Rotpit’s first full-length came out over a year ago, and I gave that one a bunch of glittering generalities, some jokes about their style, but still with a strong positive recommendation, so imagine how tickled my tummy was when I saw a new one […]

Inverted Cross – Eternal Flames of Hell (Goat Bowing Blackened Speed Metal)
First Chile, now Catalonia, what’s going on in those two countries there? Tons of crazy shit, apparently. I just reviewed Trollcave the other week, and now let’s add to the mix blackened speed metal Satanists Inverted Cross! But wait a minute, hold up now, I was just saying the other day the whole Satanist […]

Red Flags: Stories and Other Disturbances (Emotional Body Horror)
I met Dr. Elsby while at an underground lit con this September, and decided to delve into her most recent collection. I always feel bad being at such things, initially. You know, when people wonder why you don’t buy their shit, but to be totally honest I usually don’t unless I like the cover. […]

Repuked – Club Squirting Blood (Perverse Swedish Death Metal)
It’s time I faced the facts. I grew up listening to old school Pungent Stench, who developed that saucy, sweaty, butt smelling kind of grime that defined a genre in itself. But, after years of running out of ideas, some legal battles that kind of turned out alright, a stupid name change, and a […]
