DEVASTATIÖN – Rise of the Dead (Blackened Punk Thrash Beyond Your Dreams)
Holy hell is this good. I mean my blood is still boiling hours later. I want to punch something, hard. Having never heard of Belgium’s DEVASTATIÖN before this, though they’ve been dishing out releases since 2007 and…now wait a minute… Yes, nevermind! I do remember these guys, but their album Pussy Juice Blues just […]

Trick or Treat (Resurrected Horror Musical)
After a long gestation period and serious time spent in Rights Hell, Charles Martin Smith’s Trick or Treat is finally getting a new US release compliments of our buddies at Synapse Films. In an unprecedented move by Synapse, the company has chosen to “leak” their new transfer a full year ahead of release date […]

Dödsrit – Nocturnal Will (Melancholic Blackened Metalpunk)
What an interesting combination of genres this one is, but regardless, musically, it has one of the most emotional presentations I’ve ever seen out of anything going that “blackened” route. Pause, like the armored knight above, and take a breath before you listen. Sweden’s Dödsrit have been releasing full-lengths since 2017, this being their […]

Lustmord – Much Unseen is Also Here (Deific Dark Ambient Drone)
What hasn’t been said about living myth Lustmord? Around since 1980 and with connections to practically every important industrial, experimental, etc. act since then and before, there’s little I can add to the mix that will make him feel more godly. In the hordes of mere mortals bowing to his aural vistas I’m barely […]

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden (Emotional Supernatural Dark Fantasy)
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden was one of my most anticipated games of 2023. Like many other video games, it never releases on the initial date and was delayed until this February of 2024. The wait was well worth it. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has not disappointed. The game is a story-intensive action-RPG heavily focused on […]
Armando Muñoz \ horror novelization \ novelization \ Stop The Killer
Silent Night, Deadly Night (Childhood Ruined Again by Cheap Transgressiveness)
Something is awful rotten in Denmark, folks. Apparently, Stop The Killer Press (a subsidiary of the Stop The Killer board game company) has gone into the business of publishing limited edition novelizations of classic slasher films such as My Bloody Valentine and Happy Birthday to Me. Normally I would have no interest in such chicanery, […]

Tombs of the Blind Dead (Spanish Zombie Templar Horror)
Long may they ride! The jewel in the paste crown of Amando De Ossorio’s erratic career, Tombs of the Blind Dead is a minor masterpiece of Spanish Gothic Horror that has finally been lovingly restored by Synapse Films in time for its 4K UHD debut. Does this movie deserve the reputation it has? Let’s find […]

Hideous Divinity – Unextinct (They’re Good Technical Death Metal)
Here’s one of those bands I seem to recall scanning through at some point, but quickly forgot for unknown reasons. Big names I tend to avoid because they already have substantial fanbases and it maintains my false belief that I’m totally vndergrovnd by just not paying attention to them. New Cannibal Corpse album? Deleted. […]

Molten – Malicide (Archaic Heretical Death Thrash)
Goddamn. Listen, for the millionth time, cover art is so important in selling a band, a book, practically everything. Get a good artist! Case in point here’s Malicide, the latest full-length from San Francisco’s Molten. A little surprised this hasn’t received much press as of yet. Death thrash can be a generally easy sell […]

Psychic Teenage Bloodbath II (Sexy Insanity Psychic Ultra-Violence)
What another wild ride from Carl John Lee. A 10-year gap between the first book and this one, Charlie finds herself with Lynette, although it just…isn’t her. Susan, her ex-psychic girlfriend, who caused a massacre years before, now occupies the mind of Lynette. And she makes no effort to hide it anymore. Still bitter […]
