Casket Cassette – Love Letters to Ghosts (Nighttime High School Basketball Court Cold Wave)
I tell you what here’s another shat week for promos. I had only a single submission I wanted to review (already done before this one) and in desperation I thought “hey, been awhile since I heard some good Goth licks.” Search a tag and sometimes you come upon gold, this time under the moniker […]

Vastum – Inward to Gethsemane (Shameful Death Metal Eroticism)
For some bizarre reason it took me some time to get into this one, but don’t let that fool you, it’s an absolute ripper. I’ll blame the weather or something, because clearly my mind just wasn’t ready for it. Again, strange, because I find a certain site rating this much lower than would I, […]

Left Cross – Upon Desecrated Altars (Nasty, Brutish, and Short War Metal)
Here’s a band I knew nothing about until I came across this in the promos. At first I thought it was some bro metal band obsessed with punching (see their name), and then I found out it was actually murderous war metal (redundant, I know) band from Richmond, Virginia, which is quite close to […]

Abigail / Nekrofilth – Fuck in Hell’s Evil Bitches (Incorrect Grammar Blackened Thrash / Hardcore Punk)
I usually complain about splits, primarily because one band outweighs the other, but let’s forget about that today because this is not such a case. This is Abigail fools! The rulers of splits! The kings of splits! The god emperors of splits! The demiurges of splits! Say it how you want, but these guys […]

Invultation – Feral Legion (Werewolf Metal)
You know, I’ve seen the werewolf theme used quite a bit in metal, in a variety of genres too. Sometimes it’s cheese, sometimes it’s sleaze, mostly, just please. Rarely does it offer a band a chance at greatness, it’s kind of too golden age to work as I’ve seen it mainly presented, but, well, […]

Body Void – Atrocity Machine (Physically Revolting Acid Metal)
This is like political, crusted, body horror sludge or something, or let’s just say acid metal. That’s the best I could come up with today, and thankfully I hit upon this in the emails because it came in a bit late. Got a few days late to scrunch it in there so let’s do […]

Sadistic Force – Midnight Assassin (Slasher Metal)
You know a band’s killer when they’ve only been around three years but sound like they’ve been around thirty. But, hey, also you can’t be riding that retro thing too hard, otherwise we just feel old. Do I want to feel nostalgic? Sure. But I want to feel young, I want to feel like […]

Seraphic Entombment – Sickness Particles Gleam (Pre-Cambrian Fetid Death Doom)
Angry angry angry! You guys are sure angry! But, hey, you’d be this angry if you dripped off the walls of a sewer like Seraphic Entombment did. That ooze sticking in the mortar poured probably before time itself? That’s Seraphic Entombment. The misshapen pre-Cambrian artefacts of life that crawled from the seas and died […]

MØAA – Jaywalker (Gloomy Dream Pop)
Been awhile since I got a sweet taste of something like this. Occasionally some gloom comes in, but it’s trite and ineffective. It doesn’t make me languid, it makes me mad, kid. Lol, sad, a pathetic intro… Anyway I don’t even remember how I happened upon the latest from MØAA but I did, and […]

Kontusion – S/T (Raw and Mutilated Death Punk)
Whelp, I died. Another Sentient Ruin smacker. I pretty much guessed that, though, without even scoping the label. Xeroxed cover from a rotted-on-the-insides dumpster nuclear fire? Yep, musical summary right there folks, another example of my “see that cover, this sounds like that” intro. Even better, though, is how the overlapping of lines makes […]
